3 Reasons why the race to the HSC has started… without you!

Trials are done, holidays are around the corner and graduation is so close you can almost taste the end. It tastes like freedom.
BUT this is the most dangerous time of the HSC year. Let me show you why:
You’ve just finished trials, the most horrible time of your entire life so far. You’re weak from not eating, your hair is grey from stress and your skin is white because you haven’t been outside in forever.
But you made it. You can see the end and you think the hard part is over. You can afford to chill out for a while.
Right? Wrong!
The period between Trials and HSC is the most important time of the year and will either set you up for great marks or a massive fail. The students that will end up on top are the ones that use this time most effectively.
3 Reasons why this is make or break:
1. There’s more prep than you think (trust us)
We always say there are two elements to exam prep:
- Know the content
- Know how to apply the content
The first element can be done fairly quickly but the second takes time and a lot of practice.
The HSC is not like Trials where everyone is frantically trying to learn the content and everyone is similarly under-prepared. You have plenty of time before the HSC so it’s not good enough to just know your content. You need to know how to do exams, be exposed to all different types of questions and figure out how to actually answer questions effectively.
Most students think ‘oh yeah i’ll start learning my notes a week before the exam.’ Don’t be that guy or girl.
It takes a long time to practice every subject enough that you’re confident you can answer any question they’re going to throw at you. It’s really hard to cram 20 practice essays. Or cram 25 past maths exams. Your prep should be starting now. Get past papers and look through your HSC Hub videos to understand HOW to answer anything. This will give you the exposure you need to get prepared.
The only way to do it is to consistently practice from now until the HSC period.
2. The best time to get ahead
Now that trials are done - you are no longer competing with everyone in your year. You’re competing against everyone in the state. That’s like 72,000 students!
Lucky for you, most people start to slack off after trials. They chill out for far too long and only kick back into gear a couple of weeks before HSC. But, you’re not most people - not with HSC Hub. We got your back.
The top students know that this time is the best time in the year to get ahead and pull you apart from the rest of the cohort. By the time people click back into gear the top students have already got their practice papers done and are fine tuning their responses.
If it’s hard to get into the books, the easy option is to continue watching your HSC Hub videos which is a simple way to prevent you from slacking off. A video a day keeps the doctor away!
3. You need to change things… right now
Unless you’re absolutely amazing (congrats if you are) then getting your trial exams back is going to do a couple of things.
- It’s going to scare the hell out of you
- It’s going to make you question your entire existence
- AND it’s going to make it clear that you need to make changes
Whether it be English, History, Science or Maths your trials will highlight some pretty massive gaps in your knowledge and will show you the areas that need most work. This should frame your study and give you a roadmap of priorities that you need to get right before your final exams.
So the BIGGEST mistake you can make is finishing trials and taking your foot off the pedal.
This is the time to double down on the amount of prep and revision you’re doing in order to really maximise your marks. Really, you don’t want to look back and say IF I had worked harder in the lead up I would have got a better ATAR. So get onto your HSC Hub videos and churn through as many as possible over the coming weeks.
There is just about 2 months left for the rest of your schooling life - let’s smash this last part!
